I traced it back to an explorer named George Vancouver, but that's it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665945635718948308.post-70783258822678203302009-11-05T20:48:53.195-08:002009-11-05T20:48:53.195-08:00Karen, I think she may have been trying to look l...Karen, I think she may have been trying to look like the cowgirl in Toystory. Vancouver any time!

But then again, perhaps we should not cast stones at a country stealing the names from another. We'd hate to have to rename New York, New Jersey, New Mexico and New Hampshire. Think of all the wasted letterhead.Melanie Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01385073936714563295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665945635718948308.post-42666335113509155152009-11-05T20:40:37.133-08:002009-11-05T20:40:37.133-08:00Jenku,
Yes, there really is a Vancouver, USA. Ok...Jenku,

Yes, there really is a Vancouver, USA. Okay, so it struggles in the shadow of a large city across the Columbia River, serving as a bedroom community for "the city" (Portland, Oregon). But we have our very own train station. That says something, right?

And, if the woman from Georgia had been more observant, and if the station agent had been attentive, perhaps the ordeal in the station would not lasted four hours until I arrived.

Last, you have GOT to sail the San Juan Islands off the northwest coast of Washington, and up into Canada. Some of the best sailing around. Of course, I'd expect to stowaway for an afternoon...Melanie Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01385073936714563295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665945635718948308.post-76286398274147185082009-11-05T20:17:57.791-08:002009-11-05T20:17:57.791-08:00Maybe they should call theirs Vancouver-EH? It does get confusing, even Google trys to go with Vancouver BC before Vancouver WA. But ... you know....WE WERE HERE FIRST - thank you Hudson's bay company. And while I did know that there is something called Vancouver island (because it seems to be quite a good sailing area) and of course we knew that the city of Vancouver is in Canada, I did not know that there was another one in the US, either.
But then again I am from Europe. ;)

On the other hand, being from Europe I would have suspected that one would have to endure some kind of border control while going from the US to Canada...normally it's not that difficult to actually tell when you cross into another country? Things are different? Reg plates on cars, signs and so on...oh well.jenkuhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02500230663923866842noreply@blogger.com
