When "sky blue" is actually gray

This is the sixth straight day of rain. It is when people buying cars must be careful when the salesman says the car is "sky blue." He may be selling a gray car.

But there are still things in the Pacific Northwest that make me smile. As I sat in my home office, adding up mileage to and from doctor visits, listing all my medical/dental co-pays for 2011, and searching for the 10-99 from the Walt Disney Company, I spied this outside my window.

I snatched the camera, snapped the above picture through the window, and then ran to the front door, cringing as it squeaked open. I stepped out and aimed the camera at my field beside the house. It is fenced in, but the deer know the places they can get in and graze.

Four black-tail deer turned and stared at me, two adults and two yearlings.
The yearling on the right has a lot of white on him. That is rare, and I'm looking forward to seeing it when it is older, keeping my fingers crossed that the white will still be there.

Close up of the yearling with the white.

I'm always thankful for these brief interludes to remind myself of why I live in the vast Pacific Northwest.

It certainly isn't because of the weather forecast.

  1. I had not heard of Black Tailed deer before. Very pretty. We have White Tailed deer hear in VA. In fact there is a camp in the woods named after them. White Tail Resort. For nudists.

  2. Well, Jewell, do you know about this camp first-hand? And after a day in the sun, would it be the Red-tail Resort?

    1. I've owned Disney for years, just a few shares, but it is fun saying, "I own that company" whenever I see the commercials.

  4. Not to rub it in...5-day forecast for St. Augustine, FL (the oldest city in our nation):

Wed hi 83 Sunny, T-Storms possible in afternoon
    Thu hi 82 Sunny, a possible T-storm in p.m.

I love the way they think of different ways to say - SUNNY - and possible thunderstorms in the afternoon. It is bee-yoo-tee-ful here. :o)

    1. Karen,

I've been in thunderstorms in Florida. They are scary as all get out. Maybe I'll be content with our rain here. (cluck cluck cluck)

  5. I forgot about your Disney stock...I thought you had subcontracted to them for some work, and that's where the 10-99 came from. I couldn't imagine what kind of work, unless it was mouse-ears modeling. I wouldn't think they would hire you based on that incident at Disney World in 1973. just sayin'
PS we had AWESOME storms Saturday. After the first (and I thought last) storm I left my windows down in the Cabrio cuz it leaks just a bit and it was sunny. Then I relaxed with a book and fell asleep - while 2 HUGE storms blew through. All I can say is ... INCHES OF WATER..INCHES! Still airing it out...

  6. Karen,

You may certainly read my remedy for drying out a drenched car here: http://melaniesherman.blogspot.com/2011/04/suffering-through-spring-fever.html
It works. No musty smell after.
And let's not mention the incident at Disney, or the incident with the Mickey Mouse hats.
